EWVA aims to connect those who are new to the profession and invites them to participate in sketch socials, networking events, and tours. EWVA also offers support through the licensing registration process including hosting ARE study sessions and mentorship programs. Meetings: Bi-Monthly or as designated by committee membership.

Design Awards

The Design Awards require a robust committee to plan and execute both the awards process and the celebration event itself. This offers leadership development and creative expression opportunities to help produce AIA West Virginia’s signature annual event. Meetings: Occasionally during September through May with a more focused effort from December–May.

The Golf Committee is a fun group that plans and executes the annual Golf Tournament. There is also an opportunity to volunteer for the day of the event only as well. Meetings:  June through August with more concentrated meetings starting in September.

The AIA WV Honors Awards program highlights members of our community who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to AIA and its mission. The program also recognizes members of the broader community who have shown outstanding commitment to promoting smart growth, historic preservation, sustainable architecture, and enhancement of our built environment. Members of the Honor Awards Committee are responsible for selecting the jury, establishing that criteria has been met, securing awards and planning the event.

  • Educate Yourself: Learn about the current challenges and opportunities facing our profession.
     

  • Attend Meetings: Participate in local government and civic meetings to stay updated and involved.
     

  • Voice Your Opinions: Have an active say in regulation and rule changes that affect our industry. Initiate legislative actions that serve to protect and enhance the professional standards of architecture.
     

  • Provide Feedback: Share your insights and feedback with the membership to foster collective growth.
     

  • Issue Calls for Action: Mobilize and inspire others to take action when needed.

Working Cafe

Membership Directory / Communications Volunteer(S)
Year Round

These volunteers help to keep the chapter’s Membership Directory up to date as a service to AIA WV members and the community. They meet virtually every other month to review membership updates with the Executive Director. Tasks include proofreading, data cleanup, collaborating with firms to update firm profile information. Changes will be reflected on the website.

  • AIA West Virginia needs volunteers to help with content that will keep our members engaged and informed, and in creating recruiting tools to bring in new members. We are also always looking for ways to communicate with the community at large.

AIA WV Chapter of Committee on the Environment (COTE)

COTE is an AIA Knowledge Community working for architects, allied professionals and the public to achieve climate action and climate justice through design. We believe that design excellence is the foundation of a healthy, sustainable, and equitable future. COTE working groups sessions will be shared out with the AIA WV membership community.

AIA West Virginia Nominating Committee 
3-4 Months

The Nominating Committee for AIA West Virginia begins in June and runs through September. The committee plays a pivotal role in identifying and recommending qualified candidates for leadership positions within our organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying Candidates: Actively seeking and identifying potential candidates for board positions and other leadership roles.
     

  • Evaluating Qualifications: Assessing the skills and experience of potential nominees.
     

  • Interviewing Candidates: Conducting interviews to gauge the suitability and commitment of potential nominees.
     

  • Recommending Nominees: Present
